Gum Disease

Gum disease is a very common condition, causing gums to become sore and swollen. At routine check-ups, we’re careful to inspect for signs of gum disease.

Gum disease is characterised by swelling, soreness, or infection of the gum tissue.

What are the early signs?

Blood when brushing is a common early sign of gum disease. You may spot it on your toothbrush, or in the water used to rinse. You may also notice blood when chewing or notice an unpleasant taste. Bad breath can also be a sign of gum disease.

What’s the treatment process like?
The first step is a detailed examination, conducted by one of our expert dentists. We’ll walk you through what causes gum disease, and how it can be treated. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, our team is always happy to help.

From this initial examination, a treatment plan will be created—tailored to your specific needs.

This plan, for instance, could involve cleaning sessions with our hygienist. In some cases, specialist treatment may be needed.

We understand that dental treatment can be stressful, but there’s no cause for concern. Gum disease treatment can be conducted in a comfortable manner, and if needed our hygienists are trained in the use of anaesthetics.

Once the treatment plan is completed, you’ll be invited back in for reassessment, to make sure everything went well.
