Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an ideal treatment to make you look younger and fresh faced, with results that can be almost instant.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are clear gels, usually made with Hyaluronic acid (HA).  HA is a naturally occurring substance found in every tissue of our bodies, including all three layers of our skin.
As we age our skin thins, it loses collagen and elastin and other factors like sun exposure, gravity, weight loss, diet and stress cause our skin to lose volume and develop signs of ageing like sagging, wrinkles and fine lines.
Dermal fillers can help.  HA is hydrophilic which means it attracts water, so the gel works by attracting water to the area where it has been injected to increase volume.  The results are seen immediately, after injecting the skin is lifted to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and folds; also, the result tends to improve over the next few weeks after injection.  HA can help replace lost volume in areas such as the cheeks and temple and can be used to enhance the lips, cheeks and jawline.
Are there any side effects?
Immediately after injection the areas treated can be red and slightly swollen, this is normal and will resolve within a day or two.

Serious side effects are rare but will be discussed with you before treatment. As dermal fillers are temporary this makes these products very safe and it is possible to ‘dissolve’ the filler if there are any problems.

What results can be obtained from lip fillers?
The lip line (vermillion border) can be accentuated and the body of the lip can be given more volume.  Be assured that we will not over fill your lips, at London Road Dental Care we strive to achieve natural results.
What does the procedure involve?
Treatment to enhance the lips is a fairly straight forward process and will take approximately 45 minutes.  The are is numbed with topical anaesthetic or a dental block prior prior to placing the filler.  The results are instant but improve over the 2 weeks following treatment.
Do the lip filler injections hurt?
Your lips will be first numbed with a topical anaesthetic or a dental block, in addition most fillers contain a local anaesthetic for your comfort.  However, it is still possible for there to be some discomfort so Kelly is very gentle and takes her time which also helps to minimise swelling or bruising.
How long will the effects of fillers last?
How long the effects of treatment last vary from person to person depending on factors like age, lifestyle, skin structure and the filler used.  Lip treatments are usually repeated every 6-12 months to maintain the results.
